History of French courses Montparnasse

French courses Montparnasse (Cours de Français Montparnasse) is one of the largest private schools in Ukraine by the number of students. The School is specialised exclusively in teaching the French language. The School Montparnasse is located in Kyiv, where individual and group classes are held in classrooms, while students from other cities of Ukraine and foreign countries study online. The geography of Montparnasse students who study French as a foreign language is very wide and includes France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Morocco, China, etc., in addition to Ukraine.

The name of the school comes from the name of the territory in the south of Paris - Montparnasse. Literally translated from French "mont Parnasse" means: "Mount Parnassus". The name of the territory of Paris "Mont Parnasse" appeared in the 17th century. Around that time, students in the Latin Quarter of Paris jokingly called a large dump of construction debris, which formed a high artificial hill, by the name of the famous Greek mountain Parnassus (according to Greek mythology, the Muses lived on Mount Parnassus). Over time, the above-mentioned name was officially attached to this territory. The former hill used to be located at the intersection of Boulevard du Montparnasse and Boulevard Raspail. The Montparnasse district became popular at the beginning of the 20th century during the so-called Années folles, when the entire creative intelligentsia began to gather here in the legendary cafes and hangouts.

The location of the Montparnasse French School in Kyiv (Ukraine) has been changed twice since its foundation in 2013, but each time it remained in the central part of Kyiv, close to the  metro stations "Universitet", "Teatralna" and "Lva Tolstoho". Now the School is located at the address: Kyiv, str. Lva Tolstoho 9A, where classes are held in classrooms in "Offline" mode. During 2020-2021, the number of students of the Montparnasse School who study Online increased by 5 times.
